Firstly the enamel decoration is not typical wucai-style, secondly there is a lot of grit adhering to the foot and thirdly where there should be a Wanli mark there is an apocryphal Chenghua mark. These facts may point to the mountain shaped brush rest being a Qing or even a Japanese copy of a sixteenth-century object.
