Description:
Round porcelain box and cover with underglaze blue and overglaze polychrome enamels in ‘wucai’ style. This rounded box has a domed cover, rounded sides and a recessed base with an unusually neat and precise six-character Wanli reign mark arranged in three vertical rows. The tray is decorated with a green and a red dragon, both pursuing flaming pearls. The cover has a red-and-blue dragon encircling a flaming pearl with eight auspicious symbols.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Similar little boxes, decorated just in underglaze blue with horizontal Wanli reign marks like this one, were excavated from the Wanli emperor’s tomb, still filled with incense that would have been burned to create a fragrant atmosphere.
