Comments:Published PDF date : Tang dynasty 8th-10th century Room 95 label text:PDF 294Box with phoenixPotters have incised the cover of this round Yue stoneware box with a standing phoenix in the centre and leafy sprays at the edge. Phoenixes are traditionally regarded as auspicious emblems in China. They are composite creatures with the head of a cockerel, the neck of a mandarin duck, the back of a peacock, the legs of a crane and the tail of a pheasant. Here this decorative composition may have been adapted from chiselled metalwork designs.Stoneware with incised decoration and green glazeYue ware 越窯Shanglinhu kilns, Zhejiang province 浙江省, 上林湖窯Tang, about AD 700–916 PDF 294青釉鳳紋盒此圓盒蓋面中心飾劃花立鳳紋,邊緣飾卷葉紋,為越窯產品。
