Description:
Ding stoneware bowl, with copper-bound mouth rim. Creamy white. Two phoenixes among peony scrolls, bordered by a key-fret, with a central flower motif on the interior. There is an inscription on the base.

Comments:Published PDF date : 12thC Room 95 label text:PDF 108Bowl with copper–bound mouth rimThere is an inscription by the Qianlong emperor inside the foot which reads:簇粉堆花雙鳳蕤, 色堆殷尚樸 無奇, 侵尋朱氏宣成代, 遂有精描五采施, 乾隆丁酉春御題 [Cufen duihua shuangfeng rui, sedui yinshang pu wu qi, qinxun Zhu shi Xuan Cheng dai, sui you jingmiao wucai shi Qianlong dingyou chun yuti ‘Amid accumulated pollen and massed flowers the two phoenixes droop their wings. The colour is confined to that prized by the Yin dynasty, simple and unadorned. It is not till we come down to the Xuande and Chenghua of Ming dynasty that we get elaborate painting and employment of five colours. Composed by the Qianlong Emperor in the Spring of the dingyou year [AD 1777]’].
