Description:
Porcelain covered bowl with biscuit-fired relief and openwork. This bowl has rounded sides and a straight foot with a ‘bi’-shaped foot ring. It is carved in openwork. Four solid roundels with applied biscuit work show a pair of butterflies and flowers, two greyhounds beneath a pine tree, a pair of birds in a flowering branch, and two dogs jumping up at a peach tree. These are separated by openwork panels repeating the character ‘wan’ [all-encompassing goodness], framed in a diagonal grid. Above is an applied biscuit border with flower heads and scroll work and below four ‘ruyi’ clouds. The cover is domed with a flat button-shaped knob, on top of which is a lion-dog. Five solid roundels with applied biscuit work show birds with flowering and fruiting plants. These are separated by openwork panels of T-diaper. A flower scroll applied with slip decorates the cover.
