Description:
Porcelain shallow bowl with ‘kraak’-type underglaze blue decoration. This moulded bowl has rounded sides, a flat upturned rim with a bracket-lobed edge and a gritty tapering foot. Octofoil cartouches are impressed in the well. Inside it is painted with a garden scene. A woman, dressed in a long-sleeved robe, is seated on a stool in front of a table with a ‘hu’-shaped vase containing coral and a large standing screen. The well and rim are decorated with four panels with octofoil cartouches showing a book; a scroll; ‘lingzhi’ fungus; a fan; and tasselled diaper pattern textiles. In between these panels are four narrow bands with ‘ruyi’ heads and lozenge or dot designs. On the outside the octofoil cartouches show possibly a camellia, a peach, hollyhock and peach. The rim has four flower scrolls.
