Description:
Porcelain bowl with reserved white decoration on a blue ground. This shallow bowl has slightly flared sides, a raised ‘mantou’ centre and a recessed base. It belongs to a relatively rare group of Jiajing porcelains where the decoration is executed in reserved white on a blue ground. Inside it is decorated with a prancing five-clawed dragon and outside with two scaly dragons with waves and clouds separated by roundels enclosing the character ‘shou’ [longevity]. The base is also glazed blue and carries a six-character underglaze blue Jiajing reign mark in a double ring beneath the glaze.
