Description:
Porcelain bowl with red, green and yellow enamels. This ‘min yao’ bowl has rounded sides with an everted mouth and a tapering foot ring. It is painted over an ill-fitting dove-grey glaze on the outside with a continuous flower scroll showing five large blooms. Inside a central medallion contains a fish surrounded by rock and wave motifs. Two flower sprays and flower heads are arranged in opposite pairs in the cavetto. The inner and outer edges of the rim and central medallion are outlined with double rings of underglaze blue. Such faded red, green and yellow enamels suggest that this bowl was once buried or submerged in water. Hairline cracks emanate from the rim and a large chip, missing from the rim, has been rebuilt and repainted.
