Potters fired most of the Ming and Ming style porcelains twice. This bowl painted with blossoming branches has colours applied directly to the biscuit-fired porcelain body. This lends the enamels a darker hue than those first coated with a layer of glaze and fired before the enamels were added and the piece was fired again. The base has a six-character underglaze cobalt-blue apocryphal Jiajing reign mark.
