Description:
Porcelain bowl with underglaze blue decoration. This small bowl has deep rounded sides and a gently everted rim. It stands on a high foot ring and has an unglazed base. It is painted in rich tones of underglaze cobalt blue, and inside in the centre with a lingzhi fungus spray in a double-ring medallion and with a band of classic scroll at the rim. Outside two peach branches, both bearing both fruits and blossom, are delicately painted. Great attention to detail is apparent in the mottled appearance of the peach skin and the contrasting textures of the rough leaves and soft five-petalled flowers. Around the foot is a single horizontal line.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:This bowl is dated by stylistic comparison to a bowl of identical size, shape and decoration, excavated in 1994 in the Yongle strata at Dongmentou, Zhushan, Jingdezhen. Archaeological investigations in China over the past two decades have been invaluable for the clarification of the dating of early Ming porcelain.
