Description:
Bowl. Coat of arms of William, Earl of Oxford and Susannah Archer. Motto: see inscription. The arms are of Harley, “Or, a bend cotised sable”, quartering Brampton, “Or two lions passant gules, armed and langued azure”, impaling Archer, “Azure three broad arrows or”; an earl’s coronet. Edward Harley, born 1726, 4th Earl of Oxford and Mortimer, succeeded his father in 1755. He married on 11 July 1751, at St George’s Hanover Square, Susannah, eldest daughter of William Archer, Esq., of Welford, Berkshire. He died without issue in 1790, when his title passed to his nephew. This tea service may have honoured his silver wedding. Made of enamelled porcelain.
