Description:
This porcelain bowl stands on a low foot ring. It is painted in heavy doucai-style enamels inside with a central medallion framing Shoulao, the god of longevity, holding a ruyi sceptre and seated on a crane. Outside is a procession of the ba xian [Eight Daoist Immortals]:Li Tieguai with his iron crutch and magic gourd, Lan Caihe carrying a basket of lingzhi fungus, Zhang Guolao carrying a yugu a musical instrument comprising a cylindrical bamboo drum and two crutch shaped drum sticks, Han Xiangzi with a flute, Cao Guojin with castanets, Lu Dongbin with his magic sword, He Xiangnu with a is seen holding a lotus pod and Zhong Liquan with a peach with a bare belly. The base carries an underglaze blue six character Chenghua kaishu reign mark in a double ring which reads 大明成化年製Da Ming Chenghua nian zhi.
