This example, made from smooth, pale grey clay, is coated in a thick pale-bluish celadon glaze. Potters used up to four separate layers, developing the thickness of the iron-derived blue glaze. Longquan potters used porcelain stone and limestone as the main glaze ingredients but added wood ash to it.
