Description:
Porcelain bowl with underglaze blue decoration. Late Ming porcelains are often thickly made, but this small bowl is particularly heavy. It has deep rounded sides and an out-turned rim and is fitted to a straight foot. Inside it is decorated with a pair of mandarin ducks swimming in a lotus pond in a central medallion. Outside is a band of elongated lotus blooms with sketchily depicted scrolling foliage, with a band of five-petalled flower heads around the rim and a classic scroll border around the foot. The base is unglazed.
