Porcelain bowl with underglaze blue decoration. This ‘min yao’ bowl has rounded sides, a slightly everted rim and a tapering foot. It is decorated in underglaze blue inside with a peach tree bearing fruit in a double ring and outside with the Eight Treasures of Buddhism – lotus, paired fish, lidded jar, endless knot, wheel of the law, canopy, parasol and conch shell – depicted among a continuous lotus scroll and with a border of ‘ruyi’ heads above the foot.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:The spindly lotus scroll with fine stem and the border of ‘ruyi’ heads are typical of the early sixteenth century. An unmarked jar with the same pattern of evenly spaced Buddhist emblems surrounded by spindly lotus scroll is in the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum.
