Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Such chants are an important aspect of prayer in Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism. Possibly rotating the bowl had the same result as spinning a prayer wheel with an inscription around the outside – sending the prayer to the spiritual world.Part of a bowl of this type was excavated at Zhushan, Jingdezhen, in a late Wanli to Tianqi context, confirming the stylistic dating of 1600-28.
