Description:
Porcelain bowl with overglaze red decoration on a yellow ground. This small bowl is quite rare. It has rounded sides and a concave base. Inside, over the domed centre, a dragon is painted in a dark shade of underglaze blue within a medallion with double underglaze blue lines around the rim. The exterior is painted in overglaze iron red on a pale yellow ground. Four boys with shaved heads, wearing trousers and short cross-over belted jackets, are shown in a procession. Each one carries a symbolic tribute probably identifiable as a cross, a vase, branch coral and a giant peach. Peonies growing over rocks and pine trees alternately space the figures. Around the rim is a band of floral scroll.
