Comments:Rawson 1992:The opacity of the thick, light-blue glazes produced at the Jun kilns renders them unique amongst high-fired glazes. Jun glazes are often pitted where bubbles have risen to the glaze surface and burst; some Jun wares are splashed with a purple copper glaze. Though they are traditionally classified amongst the great ceramic wares of China, most Jun wares are robustly potted in utilitarian shapes, It has been suggested that the very pale blue monochrome Jun wares, like this piece, might possibly be ‘Chai’ wares, or their forerunners, known only through literature and not so far by example.
