Comments:Rawson 1992:Just as underglaze painting originated on Tongguan wares (see BM Franks.1484.pi), so overglaze enamelling began on Cizhou wares. Ferric oxide, suspended in a glaze to form a red enamel, occurs painted over the glaze on bowls and figures from Henan, Shaanxi and Shandong provinces in the thirteenth century.
