Description:
Porcelain bowl with monochrome dark blue glaze. This small bowl has rounded sides, an everted lip and a tapering foot. It is covered inside and out with a thick monochrome dark-blue glaze which has curdled to create a textured finish with dark and paler blue patches. The base carries a conventional underglaze blue six-character Jiajing reign mark in a double ring.

Comments:Harrison-Hall 2001:Such an inferior imperial porcelain would not have been accepted by the kiln supervisors of the fifteenth century, as evidenced by the vast piles of shards from rejected porcelains found at Zhushan at the imperial kiln site. Standards appear to have dropped significantly in the sixteenth century.
