Porcelain bowl with rounded sides, flared rim, and tall, straight footring. The God of Longevity and a crane is painted in urquoise, red, green, yellow and black overglaze enamel in the centre of the interior, and a procession of immortals on the exterior. There is an inscription and a mark on the base.

The Eight Immortals are a combination of male and female historical and legendary figures, each identified by different costume and attributes. For example Zhong Liquan is recognised by his top knots and fan, and Li Tieguai has a ‘grotesque’ face, walks with a crutch and carries a gourd. On the base there is an eight-character inscription reading 萬曆年製 玉堂佳器 (Wanli nian zhi Yutang jiaqi ‘Made in the Wanli period, precious vessel for the Jade Hall’) in underglaze blue.
