Description:
Porcelain bottle with depressed pear-shaped body and tall, slightly tapering, slender neck. The bottle has a fine, white, glassy body. There is a rock, roses, yellow orchids and grasses in ‘Gu Yue’ style ‘famille rose’ palette enamel on the body, and a poetical inscription on the neck. Pair with PDF 849.

On the neck is a poem in black enamel preceeded by a red seal reading 佳麗(jia li ‘beautiful’) and followed by two red seals: 四時(si shi ‘four seasons’) and 長春(changchun ‘long spring’). The poem reads 朝朝籠麗月,嵗嵗占長春 (zhaozhao long liyue suisui zhan changchun). Lionel Giles (AD1875–1953), Keeper of Oriental Printed Books and Manuscripts at the British Museum, translated the poem for R.L.
