Its dark body and celadon glaze imitates guan (official) wares of the Southern Song dynasty. Its form while common in the Qing period, was unknown in the Southern Song era. Dark clays were used at Jingdezhen in the eighteenth century to create imitations of earlier dark-bodied wares but potters also applied brown washes to the exposed white porcelain body to recreate the紫口鐵足(zikou tiezu ‘purple mouth and iron foot’) of original guan wares made at Hangzhou (see case 54).Porcelain with underglaze cobalt-blue mark, crackled celadon glaze, and brown dressing.
