Pear-shaped porcelain bottle vase. Covered with powder-blue glaze with gilt lotus decoration around body, a lizard-like dragon round the neck and floral diaper band at base of neck. Base unglazed. Pair with B556.

Potters took a bamboo tube covered with silk gauze and blew ground cobalt through it onto the moist transparent glaze. After firing at a high-temperature, they added gilt designs. This type of Chinese monochrome was very popular in Europe where it was copied successfully in England at the Worcester and Bow porcelain factoris around 1760.
