Bookcover. The flat central compartment is carved with figures of deities: Vairocana in centre; Vajrasattva on left, Tārā on right. The scrolling on the flat panel emerges from two lions’ tails; below, it terminates in two confronted lions. In the upper border the monster head is connected with the scrolling which contains the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols. Made of carved, painted and gilded wood.

Comments:Zwalf 1985An outer face with a flat central compartment bordered by a sloping edge is carved with figures of deities, scrolling, animals and Buddhist symbols. The central figure is the Buddha Vairocana; on the left is Vajrasattva and on the right the saviouress Tārā. The scrolling on the flat panel emerges from two lions’ tails; below, it terminates in two confronted lions. In the upper border the monster head symbolising fertility is connected with the scrolling which contains the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols.
