Comments:Rawson 1995:During the second half of the Eastern Zhou dynasty, namely from the late fifth century BC, the decoration of discs with small whorls became widespread. Most early discs were plain, whereas rings were often decorated, indicating, perhaps, that rings and discs had different functions. The decoration of discs, and not only rings, may well have begun in Shaanxi in the are off the Qin state, where the earliest decorated examples are found. Decorated rings and discs made of steatite were found in the Chu tombs at Changsha in Hunan province.
