Comments:The belt buckle with two slightly concave square plaques carved in relief of writhing ferocious dragons on a bed of waves. The dragons finely executed with cross-hatched scales, taloned feet and fiery snouts. The two interlocking extensions complete the belt buckle. This buckle comprises two parts, each of which has a square plaque elaborately carved with feline dragons amid clouds. Attached to part of one side is a straight bar with a closed oval loop at the other end. The other section has two bars joined by a curved section, making in effect an open loop. The two pieces can be slotted together by slipping the closed loop through the space between the two bars on the second section. When clasped together, only the dragon plaques can be seen, the loops and bars being hidden. The intricately carved surface has a brilliant polish. See Rawson 1995, p.344, cat.no.25.31.
