Description:
‘Famille rose’ beaker with a French coat of arms. Part of a set of three pieces (see also BM Franks. 486+A) are painted in a distinct colour scheme, consisting mainly of light blue, rose-pink and white enamel, with a quartered coat of arms under a helmet with lavish blue-and- white plumes, with a bird as crest and a ribbon inscribed ‘LE GRAND’ below. The rim border consists of decorative shells, feathers and similar motifs.

Comments:Harrison-Hall and Krahl 1994:The French family Le Grand had branches particularly in Normandy. The rim border is reminiscent of European-inspired shell borders such as those on a blue-and-white and an enamelled service (BM Franks. 587 and Franks. 858+).
