Comments:The trumpet-shaped bead is divided into three sections, the top and lower sections flanked by narrow striated bands are finely incised with stylized dragons’ heads facing in different directions. The waisted middle section is undecorated. A conical perforation through the length of the bead has been drilled from the wider end of the bead. Western Zhou. See Rawson 1995, p.275, cat.no.17.18. The tall sides of this bead are slightly concave, widening at the base. It is more slender in proportion than the previous example. A conical perforation from top to bottom has been drilled from one end. The bead is divided into three sections. The two outer sections are bounded by narrow striated bands, within which are dragon or tiger heads in relief, with large bulging curls. The central section is undecorated. Neatly ordered relief motifs are typical of some jades of the fourth century BC. While many jades were ornamented with relief curls descended from relief tiger or dragon heads, some pieces, such as this one, continued to show full heads in relief scrolls.
