Comments:Rawson 1995:A contrasting tradition existed in the north, where under the Liao and Jin dynasties there is also considerable evidence for jade as ornaments. Jade flowers, birds and the occasional animal figure from the north were charcterised by openwork and the generous use of incised lines, especially hatching. The more naturalistic poses and sometimes almost lyrical character of jade creatures of the Liao, Jin and Song dynasties suggests that the potent forces of earlier fierce and powerful jade animals had dissipated to a degree.
