Banknote (issuer, date and denomination unknown). Uncirculated, probably a specimen note for a printer’s archive. Tall, thin note, printed in red (front, upper part), green (lower part) and black (text) on the front, and in red on the back. (whole)

Comments:Compare the image on the reverse of this note with an image from Dianzhai Huabao, which also shows a European on the steps of a similar building. http://ocw.mit.edu/ans7870/21f/21f.027/dianshizhai/dsz_gal.html Yuehu diaotu is still to be identified, but possibly refers to Yuehu, an area in Suzhou. Perhaps diaotu is a reference to the 烟波钓徒 (yan bo diao tu), “the Old Fisherman of the Mists and Waters”, which is how the Tang dynasty poet Zhang Zhihe 張志和 referred to himself – he is said to have fished without using bait, with the aim of not catching any fish.
