Comments:Spink-Taisei sale no. 7, 1989, lot 632: ‘Forgeries of 20th century vertical 1000 cash notes issued at Wei Hei Wei: colourful, pictorial and incredibly good quality. It is doubtful if many collectors would consider the possibility of forgery but for the notation on the envelope enclosing them: “Specimens of forged notes found in the possession of the man tried by me [Lockhart] on 4th Nov. 1919 in the High Court of Wei Hai Wei.” Also a memorandum note to Lockhart relating to coins and enclosing Chang’s report, in Chinese, on the methods of making ‘bad dollars’.
