Comments:The axe is comparable to 317a but the cutting rim has been well sharpened with the sides having straight cut edges. Neolithic. This axe is carefully finished and more evenly worked than 317a, this weapon is carefully finished, with a rounded cutting edge and sloping sides polished to a narrow line. The butt end is by contrast rather rough. The hole is slightly off-centre and drilled from both sides, with a small ledge left inside it. The surfaces are polished to a soft gloss. This axe is similar to stones from Liangzhu sites such as Jiangsu Wu xian and Shanghai Qingpu Fuquanshan. Rounded forms such as this were reproduced in jade with slightly more angular corners than those of the stone original. These jade axes must not be confused with flat, smooth and much broader Liangzhu axes mentioned in the previous entry that contrasted with the rounded stone ones. See Rawson 1995, p.174, cat.no.10.8.
