[Yellow satin beading embroidered bat longevity double happiness activity]
Yellow satin beading embroidered bat longevity double happiness activity, used by the Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty during his wedding. A complete set of nine items, including a pair of purse, cigarette purse, wallet, watch cover, fan cover, betel nut bag, finger cover, and glasses cover. The bright yellow colored satin surface, with a string of colorful rice beads embroidered with Swastika characters, red bats, double happiness characters, and Ruyi cloud heads, forms a complete auspicious pattern of ten thousand blessings, double happiness, and Ruyi. The rice beads used in colored bead embroidery include red coral beads, white pearls, crimson stone beads, blue stone beads, green stone beads, and purple stone beads. The diameter of the rice beads is about 1mm, and the particles are uniform, round, and full. The rice beads are properly punched to make the surface of the embroidered pattern flush, with minimal gaps between the beads, reflecting a gorgeous and soft multicolored luster against a bright yellow substrate. The rice bead pattern protrudes on the surface of the substrate, giving it a strong sense of relief. It is rare to use so many colorful beads to embroider rich patterns on a work piece, as the material used for the work piece is small in area, the pattern design is complex, and it is often played with in the palm, making the process even more difficult than embroidering clothes
This type of work is usually painted by the Ruyi Hall in the palace and supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Every year, the Internal Affairs Office makes such work customized, not only for the emperor’s wedding as a gift, but also for the emperor, empress, and empress dowager to prepare a large number of gifts for the royal family and close officials during festivals.
