Pearl of pearl is the most commonly worn crown hat by aristocratic women in Manchu during auspicious festivals, except for the emperor’s accession to the throne, the grand wedding, and the coronation of the empress. According to the “Chronicles of Chaoye since the Daoxian Period”, “When a woman wears a ceremonial gown, she carries on her head the name of mother-of-pearl. There are three types of mother-of-pearl: phoenix mother-of-pearl, full mother-of-pearl, and half mother-of-pearl. The system uses black velvet and satin strips to make an inner tube, and uses silver or copper wire to decorate it with emerald or pearl ornaments.”
