Embroidered Cypress and Chrysanthemum Starling Figure Axis

Embroidered Baiju Pagoda Axis:

Embroidered Baiju Pagoda Axis, Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty, 159 centimeters vertically and 50 centimeters horizontally
This picture is made of blue plain satin and embroidered with cypress trees, chrysanthemums, starlings, etc., showing a beautiful scene of late autumn. The selection of fabrics and the patterning of objects indicate that this embroidery has the style of late Qing flower and bird paintings
The cypress leaf embroidery method in the picture is unique. It is embroidered in layers and circles using a seed beating needle method, from shallow to deep, to achieve the purpose of faint color. The needle method is uniform, and the seeds are full and round, giving the leaves a patterned effect like clouds like leaves. Tree trunks, chrysanthemums, rocks, and starlings are embroidered with needle techniques such as set needles, winding needles, aligning needles, rolling needles, hair applying needles, tying needles, and snatching needles. The needle techniques and color threads are changed according to the needs of the object image, making the flowers on the dark ground more beautiful and the birds more vivid
After the middle of the Qing Dynasty, the increase in the selection of dark colored silk and satin based embroidery paintings was due to the influence of the painting style at that time. However, due to the use of silk threads for coloring, the luster and texture of silk embroidery paintings are unparalleled in calligraphy.
