Box made of red sandalwood, rectangular, with a flat bottom slightly concave, and shallow grooves around the foot. The edges of the box and lid are inlaid with gold threads for a week. The cover is slightly raised and inlaid with a picture of Hu people herding sheep. The white, yellow, and black sheep are on the right, and the herdsman on the left is a Hu figure, with a scarf and hat wrapped around his head, a chest protector and belt tied around his waist, and high boots on his feet. He sits on the rocks. Three auspicious clouds accompany a red sun in the sky. This image uses mother-of-pearl inlay as the main inlay material. The clothing of Xiangyun, Huangyang, Baiyang, and Hu people is inlaid with mother-of-pearl inlay. The red sun, black sheep, and mountain stones are inlaid with agate, black lacquer, and malachite, respectively. Parts of the character’s clothing are inlaid with colored stones. This work was made in the early Qing Dynasty. The inlay technique is concise and exquisite, with Sanyang lively, the characters’ eyes bright and vivid, and the artistic conception of the picture is peaceful and serene.
