[Ivory carved bamboo joint type arm rest]
Ivory carved bamboo joint type arm rest, late Qing Dynasty, 24.5cm long and 6cm wide
The arm rest is carved in a longitudinally cut bamboo section style, which meets the requirements of the arm rest tiled shape. It is thicker and heavier, with a slightly wider lower part and a slightly narrower upper part, with a naturally curved contour. Sculpture is mainly based on relief and engraving, with cutting skills seen in realism, and the bamboo knots and whip are vividly depicted. The longer roots are concentrated on one side, overlapping and pressing against each other, with a strong sense of rhythm. A small bamboo wanders and attaches itself to the bamboo knot. The extension, rotation, and insect erosion marks of its leaves all add some vitality to the table. A segmented diaphragm is carved on the back, and dragonflies, beetles, and butterflies are embossed in the recessed space. Obviously, its ornamental significance has far exceeded its practical value, and it is among the best of its kind in the late Qing Dynasty.
