Steamboat Weather Meter, France, 19th century, 38.5cm high, 44cm wide, 18cm thick
The hull is placed on a marble seat. There are two cylinders on the hull deck, with a single set of two needle clocks embedded in the front, which are strung through the string holes on the dial, and a weather and heat watch embedded in the rear. The top of the chimney between the two tubes is a compass, and a thermometer is embedded on the side. Start the stern rudder, the cylinder rotates clockwise, and the drive wheel at the stern rotates. The bow and stern of the ship are decorated with flags of various sizes, each of which is copper plated with gold. The large flag is engraved with a dragon pattern, and the small flag is engraved with the words “Long Life and Boundless”
The words “Made in France” are marked on the dial of the wind, rain, cold, and heat watch. It is known that it is a French product, and its entry into the Qing Palace may be related to the emperor’s and empress’s birthday celebration
