Pen holder with narrow hem, flat bottom, and attached seat. The outer wall of the tube is embossed with landscape pavilions, figures, and trees. In the picture, there is a pool of clear water, and the geese swim in the waves. An elderly man sits in a pavilion beside the pool to watch the geese swim in the water. There are two people walking on the small bridge, and the children following him embrace the zither in their arms, in order to visit friends with the zither. Although there are many scenes, their levels are clear and their artistic conception is tranquil and profound. Several types of brocade are carved on the implements to show different spaces. The bottom is painted with black paint, and the center is engraved with the seal script “Jiaqing Year System” in two lines and four characters
This pen holder has a thick paint layer, precise carving techniques, deep and powerful edges, clear and eye-catching patterns, and bright colors. Its knife technique and pattern style retain some of the characteristics of carved lacquer from the Qianlong period. This pen holder is the only known lacquer carving work with Jiaqing style, so it is extremely valuable for studying the development and changes of lacquer carving technology after Qianlong and the style characteristics of lacquer carving during the Jiaqing period.
