Yellow Zhenxiao Ivory Carved Boat

[Yellow Zhenxiao Ivory Carved Boat]

Yellow Zhenxiao Ivory Carved Boat was built in the third year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, with a length of 5.2 centimeters, a width of 1.5 centimeters, and a height of 1.7 centimeters
Huang Zhenxiao, from Guangdong, used his exquisite ivory carving style to imitate the nuclear boat carving techniques skilled by artisans in Suzhou to carve this small boat. The hull is full of hollowed out carvings, and the bow of the ship is carved with three people performing their own duties. Behind them, there is a memorial archway isolated from the cabin. The cabin is in the form of a pavilion, with doors and windows that open and close freely and are quite exquisite. On the canopy, seven boatmen are setting up the mast. The stern of the ship is carved with a corrugated guardrail, and the rudder is installed under the bottom of the ship, which can be moved left and right. On the underside of the starboard ship’s side, there is a fine engraved regular script with black lettering, which reads, “The Qianlong Wuwu Flower and Moon was made by Huang Zhenxiao, a small minister.” The Qianlong Wuwu Flower and Moon was in February of the third year of Qianlong’s reign (1738)
Huang Zhenxiao entered the Ruyi Pavilion at the end of the second year of Qianlong’s reign (1737). According to this time, this ivory boat should be a “trial” work. This work was approved by Emperor Qianlong, who granted permission to leave famous money. The rapid increase in Huang Zhenxiao’s salary from 32 to 82 may also be related to this
