[Red sandalwood edge recognition text depicting the hanging screen of the Ming Emperor’s horse test]

The Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty, with a height of 86.5cm and a width of 54.5cm
The hanging screen is vertically rectangular and has a red sandalwood frame. The screen is painted black, The first half of the inscription depicts the imperial title of Emperor Qianlong’s “The Painting of Emperor Ming Testing Horses”:
“I once saw Zhao Lin’s six horses pass on to the statue of Zhenguan, where everyone drew arrows and rode a few times. In the midst of the battle, the majestic and heroic wind had been admired for thousands of years. Han Gan tested the horse and wrote that the emperor suspected it was the first stop of the hot spring. Yan’s saddle sleeves and hands were slightly flushed. The two of them held each other in awe and cheered for the creation of He Xiong to guard He weak feasts, and poison suddenly forgot the heavenly family, the fishing sun, and the drums moved. It was inevitable that the rugged Shu Road was surrounded by mountains and rivers. The valuable cautionary notes in the drawings were kept by Qu Ran to caress the ancient times and sigh for the imperial title of the new spring moon of the fifth son.”
The second half imitates the Tang Dynasty Han Gan painting “The Painting of the Ming Emperor Testing a Horse” by using techniques such as identifying text, depicting gold, and adding silver and color. The ancient imprints on the original track are also copied one by one. From the poems and paintings, it can be seen that Emperor Qianlong’s intention to inscribe this hanging screen is to warn the present from the ancient times and warn the descendants of the Qing royal family not to forget to ride and shoot, and not to repeat the fate of the previous dynasty’s weakness and decline. In the old collection of the Qing Palace, there is another piece of filigree enamel hanging on the screen called “The Painting of the Emperor Testing Horses”, which is basically the same as this one
