[Jasper Double Hole Bottle]
Jasper Double Hole Bottle, Qing Qianlong, height 22.5cm, caliber 4.9cm, bottom diameter 10.7 × 7.3 cm
The bottle is made of jade and has a three-dimensional round sculpture. The bottle body is cut into two cylinders, with a flat dragon shaped top cover. An openwork sculpture of a flying eagle stepping on a bear’s head between two cylinders. The upper part of the bottle is decorated with grain patterns, the middle part is decorated with hook cloud patterns, and the lower part is decorated with cicada patterns. The abdomen of the bear on the bottom of the implement is inscribed with the official script inscription “Qing Qianlong Antique”
Grain patterns and hook cloud patterns were widely used on jade during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, while cicada patterns were mostly found on bronze in the late Shang and early Zhou dynasties. This jade vase draws on the decorative patterns of ancient artifacts. Eagle and bear are traditional patterns, and their homonyms imply heroes, referring to outstanding figures with courage, knowledge, and ability.
