Red sandalwood inlaid with mother-of-pearl inlaid with a group of immortals’ birthday bell, Guangzhou, late Qing Dynasty, 85 centimeters high, 48 centimeters wide, and 24 centimeters thick
The clock frame is made of red sandalwood, and the front wooden surface is inlaid with mother-of-pearl patterns. The patterns are diverse, including ten thousand generations of gourds, buns, grapes, plum and bamboo, implying multiple offspring, multiple blessings, and multiple longevity. Above the clock dial, there is a landscape with three coupon doors, with the words “Holy Birthday and Boundless Land” written on the middle lintel, and the words “Yao Tian” and “Shun Ri” written on the two lintels. In the middle gate stands the birthday star, with one hand holding a staff and the other holding a Buddha’s hand. Two people are separated on both sides of the door, each holding an elephant, like carrying bottles and arranging flowers
When the mobile machine is activated, the longevity star’s arm with the stick moves up and down, and the two people outside the door swing one arm each.
