After the collapse of Emperor Kangxi, Emperor Yongzheng kept filial piety for him in the Heart Nurturing Hall. After the ceremony was completed, he did not move back to the Qianqing Palace. Instead, he used the Heart Nurturing Hall as the emperor’s bedroom. From then on until Emperor Xuantong, a total of eight emperors lived in the Heart Nurturing Hall in the Qing Dynasty, making it a place for the emperor to handle daily affairs, summon officials, and rest. The East Warm Pavilion was once the place where Empress Dowager Ci’an and Empress Dowager Cixi listened to the government from the curtain. It was also here that Emperor Xuantong, following the will of Empress Dowager Longyu, abdicated and ended the rule of the Qing Dynasty
