Kiln Change Double Ear Chrysanthemum Petal Zun, Qing Qianlong, height 22.3 cm, caliber 18.2 cm, foot diameter 11.6 cm
The entire body is in the shape of a chrysanthemum petal, with an outwardly curled mouth, a thick long neck, a flat shoulder, a slight arc, a flat round belly, and rounded feet. Double dragon ears are symmetrically placed on the neck and shoulders. The interior is painted with sky blue glaze, and the exterior is painted with kiln changed glaze. Except for a small amount of blue on the shoulder, the rest are all flame red. The paste glaze inside the foot is printed with the “made in the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty” three lines and six characters in Yin script
In the early Qianlong period, the kiln changed glaze maintained the “flame green” characteristics of the Yongzheng period, and then gradually changed into patches and stripes with various colors of red, blue, and moon white interwoven into blocks. In the late Qianlong period, there were fewer moon white and blue in the kiln changed glaze, and most of them were red
In the Qing Dynasty, the manufacture of porcelain was divided into two categories: round ware and chiseled ware. Round ware refers to bowls and plates, while chiseled ware includes various objects that need to be carved into shapes. Although this statue can be classified as a round vessel, the chrysanthemum petal pattern on its outer wall needs to be carved. The “round area vessel drawing” section in the “Tao Ye Tu” indicates that “the round vessels are made differently, while the square petal edges and corners are made by inlaying and engraving pins.” The chrysanthemum petal edges and lines of this vessel are made by this process.
