During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, there were 12 leaves, with a height of 240 centimeters and a width of 57.8 centimeters each
On the center of each screen of this screen is a seven-character rhythmic poem inscribed by the Emperor Qianlong in a running script, a total of 12 poems, all written in the seventh year of Qianlong (1742), and included in the “Collection of Poems and Essays Made by Emperor Gaozong”. From right to left, the inscribed poems on the screen are: Summer Yingtai Works, Xiqing, Exposing Books, Autumn Outskirts, Autumn Begins the Day after Qixi, Qionghua Tower Facing the Rain, Autumn Evening Moonlight, Qinglong Bridge Walking at Dawn, Wild Scenery, Listening to Wild Geese, Panshan Nostalgia, Winter Night Rejuvenation. The screen is woven with extremely fine paper threads, and the frames are all wrapped in colored brocade. The lower part of the screen is inlaid with a taped ring plate
The paper weaving process is unique to Yongchun Prefecture, Fujian Province, with a history of nearly 1200 years. This process can be divided into two categories: paper woven characters and paper woven paintings. To make a work, each process has strict technological requirements, the most critical of which is cutting and weaving paper threads. The paper thread should be cut evenly and uniformly. If the width of the cut is uneven, the warp and weft will inevitably be uneven after weaving. “If the weaving technique is not high, the weaving is not tight or dense, or there are broken threads, the same cannot be achieved.”. This screen is made of double layer paper and silk. The font is significantly lower than the paper surface, and the edges can also be seen with carved marks. The work is exquisitely crafted and combines the arts of weaving, calligraphy, and sculpture, well reflecting the style and features of paper weaving in Yongchun, Fujian
