Yixing Kiln Purple Sand Clay Painting Plum Stone Painting Title Qianlong Imperial Poetry and Art Cover Pot, Qing Dynasty Qianlong, height 15.5cm, caliber 4cm, foot diameter 4.8cm
The jar is cylindrical in shape, with slightly enlarged lips, a short neck, a straight belly, and rounded feet. Attached is an umbrella shaped cover with a ball shaped button on top. Light yellow sand and mud. On one side of the abdomen, a corner is decorated to open the light, and the inside of the opening light is inscribed with the poem “Cooking Tea in the Rain and Sleeping in the Study” (for the original poem, see Volume IX of the “First Collection of Poems Made by Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty”). On the other side, there is a clay painting of plum trees and stones: the old plum trees slant out between the gaps in the lake and stones, with flowers covering the branches, either in full bloom or in bud
The poem “Cooking Tea in the Rain and Lying Away in the Study” by Emperor Qianlong was widely used in the decoration of Emperor Qianlong’s tea sets, not only limited to purple sand ware, but also widely used in Jingdezhen official kiln porcelain.
