The Painting of Nine Yang Eliminating Cold with Kesi Embroidery was embroidered in Suzhou during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, with a length of 213 centimeters and a width of 119 centimeters. The old collection of the Qing Palace
This picture is made of tapestry and embroidery. The background is made of tapestry, while the main figures, animals, and trees are embroidered on the tapestry. The sky is precious blue, with colorful auspicious clouds on it. On the hillside grassland, between the pines and green trees, three boys and nine young sheep are playing. “Nine lambs symbolize ‘nine yang dispelling cold’, while three children belong to yang, meaning ‘three yang begets prosperity’.”. The picture uses tapestry techniques such as flat stitching, edge stitching, and shuttling, as well as embroidery techniques such as stitching, stitching, applying needles, oblique wrapping needles, seed punching needles, and “harmony needles”. The colors are rich and colorful, especially the contrast between blue, red, and white, making the theme prominent and the object image distinct
At the top of the picture is a poem written by Emperor Qianlong:
The Nine Yangs intended to send the Nine Yangs, because there are nine pictures to dispel the cold
It is evident that the heart of the child is half full of spring, and the meaning of the third male character is still in harmony with the Thai character
In the Song Dynasty, the creation was truly ingenious, and craftsman Su imitated it as Fu Shu
I ramble that today’s people are not as good as ancient times, and I feel ashamed to return to simplicity with clouds
Imperial Title of Xinchou Jiaping
Xinchou Jiaping was in December of the forty sixth year of Qianlong’s reign (1781). From the poems inscribed by the emperor, it can be seen that this picture was painted by a Suzhou silk weaver during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, imitating the painting “The Painting of the Nine Yang Dispelling Cold” by the Song Dynasty
The screen is stamped with “Suitable for Descendants”, “Sanxi Hall Jingjian Seal”, “Jiaqing Royal Tour Treasure”, and other seals
This work is described in the “Three Collections of Shiqu Treasures”.
