The snuff bottle has a copper cover with gilded and carved flowers, and is attached with an ivory spoon. Straight mouth, short neck, flat round belly, flat bottom, circular foot. The belly wall depicts a white cat catching butterflies in the flowers, with a vivid expression and a hint of hair. “Cat butterfly” is homophonic to “octogenarian”, which means longevity. “Liaozhai Zhiyi – Zhong Sheng”: “You don’t have great wealth, but it’s enough to be an octogenarian.” Blessing longevity has been a very popular decorative theme since the mid and late Ming Dynasty.
